Kasia and Arian~*

Okay this is gonna be my second post of the day haha, but this time I'm gonna post parts of my story here. And since I don't really have a name for my story yet, I'll just call it "Kasia and Arian" because they are the main protagonists (wink wink nudge nudge) :)
Now that everyone's happy, on with the story~*

----------------------------

Prologue

The city below me was noisy and lights flashed every few seconds. I stood, 10,000 feet above ground and grimaced at the peace and how normal human routines were, no wonder they are so mundane and boring. They don’t ever have a thrill in their lives.

Maybe that is another reason why I enjoy killing them. To me, humans are nothing but food. Don’t get me wrong- I’m not a vampire, those monsters don’t exist in this world unfortunately. I don’t consume blood; I consume their humanity, their soul.

From above, I could hear the siren’s wails as the cops try to chase down a bandit. The sky seemed dark and angry; a cloud clashes with another and a bolt of lightning flashed in the near-distant. I allowed my eyes to divert and stared up at the sky; trying to see if anyone else was going to have a near-death experience today. Another bolt of lightning escaped from the skies and zapped down dangerously, confirming my unanswered question.

I felt a smile break through my grimace and without thinking; I jumped off the tall building I had been standing on for a couple of minutes. I felt the wondrous sensation all over me; wind was rushing upward so fast I had trouble breathing, and had to take deep breathes. But it was all over too fast, before I knew it I landed on both my feet expertly.

Bystanders barely even glimpsed at my direction, even if they did, I knew what they saw: a slim girl with long coal black hair and flawless skin wearing expensive clothes. So, basically I looked like a wealthy heiress ‘daughter who has a pretty face.

Rain started to fall down from the skies in steady drops. I glanced up once again, momentarily distracted. When I was little, I used to think that rain was Heaven’s tears, and that whenever it rained, it meant that God and the saints were upset about something. I shook my head at that silly memory; heaven didn’t exist, not when I’m here. Now that I’ve arrived in this small city of Vancouver, it’s hell on Earth.

Chapter one

Kasia

I knocked on the first house on Hastings Street. Instinct told me that my victim was going to be here. And of course most of the time, I don’t need to actually find the location because it’s burned in my brain; almost every single place in the world is burned into my brain.

The mahogany door creaked opened and a chubby man holding a large bag of potato chips peeked out warily. His hair was dishevelled and his squinty grey eyes trailed up and down my body before a smile crept out.

“What can I do for this lovely lady today?” He asked politely, but there was a wicked glint in this eyes that proved he wasn’t all that innocent. “Maybe you should come inside, it is pretty cold outside. Unless you rather…” He trailed off staring at my legs, probably wondering how I can still wear a denim mini during the middle of winter.

I smiled at him and hoped it looked seductively. “I would love to come inside but I have to be invited in by the master of this house,” My fingers trailed down the door frame slowly. “Are you the master of this house?” I fluttered my eyelashes innocently. The man stared at me adoringly and nodded frantically, and I know that he was hypnotized for now.

I stepped into the house because I have been invited inside and scanned the room hastily for any other relatives, friends, or family members, Mr. Marin had forgotten to tell me about. Once the coast was clear, I searched for my victim and noticed him back on the coach; his eyes were immobilized on me.

Maybe it was his expression, the glint in his eyes, or the drool dripping down his mouth; but having Marin stare at me like that gave me an uncomfortable feeling in my bones. But all that vanished when I saw his soul struggling inside his body. It yearned for its freedom, but knows that if it escaped, Mr. Marin will vanish from this world.

Souls, many of them are attracted to me not because of my appearance, but because of whom I am and what I do. I’m Kasia Conti, and I am the Soul Catcher.

Side effects begin to show in Marin’s body because of the uncertainty and instability of his soul. His body starts to thrash wildly; his bag of potato chips slipped from his hands and scattered everywhere on the floor. Marin’s eyes were rolled to the back of his head, only showing his sclera.

I took a step and moved towards Marin’s body quickly. I have to get the soul out of his body before the soul goes beyond my control. Once it does go beyond my ability to tame it, the soul will forever be stuck on this planet without a body. People had called them ghosts, but actually they are dead souls who are forever drifting aimlessly in this planet.

Once I got to Marin, I flipped his body over carelessly, as if he were a deck of cards and my fingers landed on the nape of his neck. I pressed on it as hard as I can and felt a rush of energy fill my body with warmth and gentleness.

Meanwhile, Marin’s body started shrieking hoarsely, and almost automatically, I felt sadness.
Souls were bonded to bodies in very special ways. In ways that cannot be seen or heard, it is almost as if an invisible thread has sewed the soul and body together creating a person. So once I take the soul away from the body, the invisible threads are ripped off, causing a lot of pain to the host.

Before I knew it, the process was over. Marin’s body slipped out of my hold and flopped down lifelessly on the floor. Cupped in my hands was the soul, long silvery, and beautiful. It stared longingly in Marin’s direction and wanted to fly over there, but I cupped it more tightly and dropped it in my bag. It slithered in smoothly and disappeared inside.
